Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday, the last day before Lent, which according to the Christian tradition shall precede Easter. A sign of spring as good as any. Not that I fast – luckily enough one can choose which traditions to follow, and fasting isn’t quite my cup of tea – but isn’t it wonderful to know that when Lent is up, it will be spring for sure! I can hardly wait! So today I’ve baked traditional swedish shrove buns with whipped cream and home made almond paste, and dreamed of coffee on the kitchen stairs, sun that warms, crocus and birdsong. A little finely grated orange peel in the almond paste did the trick and made bun more fresh than sweet. I highly recommended you to try it!
